Thozoka family! Thokoza is Zulu and is translated "Be Happy!" It is with great humility before the mpande and with personal joy that I announce the unveiling of my Zulu name the mpande have chosen. I AM kuthokoza mina uNyoniyeZulu inkanyiso lizwileqiniso umelibandla. "uNyoniyeZulu" is the mythical Zulu bird of Lightening that resides in the heavens. Ironically my Sangoma mentor says the bones reveal I have "Bliksem - That which strike fast when u least expect it, sent by a real high sorcerer, magick lightning! A bliksem in Afrikaans." Ironically, my rattlesnake on the nganga is named Lightning! The rest of my Zulu praise name is inkanyiso lizwileqiniso umelibandla is interpreted, "the Light of God, the Voice of Truth, the Defender of Justice.' Again the South African Sangoma writes to me "U see now your specialties! U lead, show direction, heal and comfort."

Confirmation of my royal Zulu ancestry is inferred both by the mpande and my nfumbe, plus confirmed by the tarot. My mother's slave ancestors were Bantu and married among the Zulu people. My ugogmkhulu wakho (great great Zulu grandmother) is named Nkukumezana inyoni kayidli phansi idlaphezukwezihlahla. A more recent slave ancestor named Alister lived in the south eastern part of were I now reside the mpande say. Alister is the one connecting me to my Zulu lineage. She was a strong beautiful dark brown woman the readings reveal. It is she that mediums have seen around me all these years but could not identify. There are no coincidences in the Universe. Things happen for a reason regardless if you understand why then or years later. Years ago some of you may recall I publicly shared on the Luckymojo Hoodoo Rootwork Hour how I was led to bath with the grave dirt of Zora Neal Hurston and the subsequent visions and dreams I had of being in Africa and being welcomed home as a child of the Congo and Son of Zulu!

Mari Ruth will attest to my vision and dream of the serpent mermaid that carried me deep beneath the waters of a river. There the spirit told me I am Zulu - that the heavens belonged to me and I am called by the ancestors to this work. The monstrous snake mermaid said all I would ever need to know about conjure was already in me. When I rose from the raging rapids of that river, the strong hands of my Bantu South African ancestors grabbed my wrist and led me across to safety! I immediately wrote about the experience, mailed a copy to myself, shared a copy with NY Times best selling author Christine Wicker who later wrote about this experience in "Not In Kansas Anymore, A Curious Tale How Magic Is Changing America" a year afterwards. She was with me when I collected the dirt from Zora Neal Hurston's grave. That year I sent Zora's dirt all around the world to dozens of people. Thank you mama Zora for connecting me to my past in order that I may know my future. "A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots". Hoodoo, Witchcraft & the Bible. A Curse or a Blessing?

Hoodoo, Witchcraft & the Bible. A Curse or a Blessing?

The Bible is replete with hoodoo and sorcery. The Philosophy of Fire is throughout the Bible and the most often quoted scripture in the OT is that "the fire upon the altar shall never go out", referring to the Holy Flame that burned in the Holy of Holies where the Arch of the Covenant resides. So the use of incense & candles in hoodoo and conjure is valid and as old as antiquity. Oh, did I mention the tongues of fire that descended on the Day of Pentecost?
As a thrice ordained minister and former pastor, I have spoken to this subject many times. All the input given thus far is sound, but allow me to add. . .

Many of the Christian patriarchs such as Jacob, David, Daniel, Joseph and Moses practice the conjure arts. "Born Agains" will thump the Bible and parrot "suffer not a witch to live" and cite King Saul's encounter with the witch of Endor as an example of necromancy and black magic. If God intended for all practitioners of the conjure arts to be put to death, why weren't the patriarchs? Joseph had a diviner's cup that he used for scrying. The ephod that the high priest wore was a collection of gemstones used for divination. In the King's James Bible David asks for the ephod that he might divine the will of God. Moses used dust from the Tabernacle floor to cast a curse on married females that committed adultery. The effects of the spell were horrendous and indicated the woman's belly would swell and her thighs would rot. Jacob used branches (rods) from the Popular, Hazel and Chestnut tree, stripped the bark from them and placed them in the water troughs where the cows, sheep, etc., saw their reflections and the next birthing season produced spotted  animals when there were none previously in the herd of his father-in-law. Jesus the Christ used spit and clay to heal a blind man's eyes when He being the Son of God had only to speak the Word for the man's healing. Why? So that we too might follow his example and do greater works.

My favorite patriarch is Daniel, who became Belteshazzar, master of the magicians. He could not have held that high position over all the astrologers, soothsayers and necromancers if he did not demonstrate the knowledge and efficiency of the occult arts of that day. Nor would he have had the support and respect of the King and his "psychic advisers" if he did not show mastery of the occult. I quote from Daniel 4:9 "O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you, and no secret troubles you, tell me the visions of my dream that I..."

In closing, I recall my days as an Apostle in the Hope Tabernacle Ministries, Chicago, IL. The Right Rev., Dr. Apostle Sylvester Brinson, III, Prelate & Founder. I was a founding member of the College of Bishops and Apostles and Overseer of the Southeastern District (Southern States). My fellow colleagues, many of whom were elder ministers previously associated with COGIC questioned my involvement in the occult and reputation as a root-man. They said I was backslidden and had departed from  the Pentecostal/Full Gospel Faith. After all the hoopla subsided, the Prelate spoke from the word and said I am a modern day Daniel called to be the master of the magicians. He stated that no man could do this work unless God had given it to him. He cited the example when Jesus' disciples asked permission to burn down a man's ministry who was teaching and healing in Jesus' Name. Jesus responded to them that no man could do this work except the Father gives it and "other sheep I have that are not of this fold."

So I conclude that the matter hinges on who do you serve? Do you serve Baal or Yahweh? To whom do you offer the praise and glory for the gift to divine, direct spirits and conjure the elements as Elijah did? The admonition "suffer not a witch to live" is directed toward those individuals that worship the thing created and not the Creator. They are the ones that bow down to the golden calf and stone idols in obeisance when only the Most High, Yahweh, Jehovah, Elohim is deserving of worship. People that work with spirits should be aware that only the Father of Lies, Satan the Prince of Demons attempts to usurp the Glory that belongs to God. However, even he will one day bow and confess that Jesus is Lord, to the Glory of God the Father.
